Felony Assistant Public Defender

The Coles County Public Defender’s Office is seeking a passionate, dedicated Assistant Public Defender to join our team. You’ll handle felony-level cases, as well as other criminal and juvenile matters, advocating for those who need a strong voice in the legal system. Candidates with jury trial experience and at least 4 years legal experience are preferred.

This is your chance to stand up for constitutional rights, challenge and protect the system, and defend with purpose — all without tracking billable hours or punching a time clock.

What You’ll Do:

  • Represent clients in serious felony cases
  • Handle a variety of criminal and juvenile matters as assigned
  • Collaborate with an experienced, mission-driven legal team

What You’ll Get:

  • Salary: $75,000–$90,000 per annum depending on experience
